Brian Melley, reporter, Los Angeles, reported exclusively that authorities were investigating whether a human skeleton found by hikers beneath California’s second-highest peak were the remains of a Japanese man who went missing from the Manzanar internment camp in the final days of World War II.

A U.S. soldier guards the Japanese internment camp at Manzanar, Calif.. May 23, 1943. A human skeleton retrieved from California’s second-highest mountain, Mount Williamson, in October 2019, may be the remains of a Japanese-American man who died in 1945 as part of a fishing party from the camp.
